Loving-kindness

On Valentine's Day and this week I have been sharing and practicing a Loving-Kindness Meditation with all of my students. On Monday the 14th I gave each of my students a daffodil. We then practiced the meditation and moved through an asana practice designed to open the chest and heart. At the end of class we practiced our meditation again. As students were leaving class I announced "Did everyone take their flower?" and one student said, "I did not get one." Two students immediately came over to her and offered her their flower. She exclaimed that daffodils were her favorite. This touched me deeply as I saw the effects of our practice in action. I offer gratitude to all of my students and yogis everywhere.

May you be filled with loving kindness,
Barbara

Here is the meditation to be repeated to yourself for 15-20 minutes at least once or twice a day for six months. As per the Buddha's instruction picture yourself as a child or as you are now as you recite the meditation and let the words permeate your entire being.

May I be filled with loving-kindness
May I be well
May I be peaceful and at ease
May I be happy

Orange Yoga Wristband for Tsunami Relief

I am wearing an orange wristband to support Tsunami Relief in the realm of yoga. Here is how you can wear one as well. Purchase an orange "I do yoga" wristband for $2.99 and $1 goes to the American red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. When you wear this orange surgical silicone rubber wristband (like Lance's yellow wristband) you show others that you're a part of a yoga community that cares. One side of the wristband is inscribed with the phrase 'i do yoga.' The other side has a Devanagari inscription of Pantanjali's sutra 'atha yoganushasanam' which means "now an exposition of yoga is being made."

To view a wristband and make your order, click on www.wearorange.orgOnce we receive your order, we'll send out your wristbands so you receive them within 10 business days. And we'll deposit your $1 aid contribution to our local Red Cross chapter account on the day we receive your order.

Just like a Tsunami, yoga has been a tremendous force in our lives. When we're around others who have been deeply affected by yoga, it makes us want to be better people. The yoga community brings out the best in us. Even though we want to, we can't go to help the people in need. But we can send a gift. And we can give our gifts in a way that shows we're grateful for the many gifts that have come our way through yoga and the vibrant yoga community. Click on www.wearorange.org to make your gift on behalf of the yoga community.Shipping and handling charges for your order of one to ten wristbands is only $2.95. If you order more than 10 wristbands, shipping and handling are FREE.

Thank you,

Kevin Perry, RYT & Sallie Keeney
