Loving-kindness

On Valentine's Day and this week I have been sharing and practicing a Loving-Kindness Meditation with all of my students. On Monday the 14th I gave each of my students a daffodil. We then practiced the meditation and moved through an asana practice designed to open the chest and heart. At the end of class we practiced our meditation again. As students were leaving class I announced "Did everyone take their flower?" and one student said, "I did not get one." Two students immediately came over to her and offered her their flower. She exclaimed that daffodils were her favorite. This touched me deeply as I saw the effects of our practice in action. I offer gratitude to all of my students and yogis everywhere.

May you be filled with loving kindness,
Barbara

Here is the meditation to be repeated to yourself for 15-20 minutes at least once or twice a day for six months. As per the Buddha's instruction picture yourself as a child or as you are now as you recite the meditation and let the words permeate your entire being.

May I be filled with loving-kindness
May I be well
May I be peaceful and at ease
May I be happy
